But I don't know. And I believe "Sweetheart Like You" is about Israel. I mean he's been hounded all his career with speculation about this or that concerning him, his religious beliefs, his origins and so forth. I would get paranoid too. He long ago just decided to keep every fool who was overly curious about him guessing and rooting around in their own minds. Now he's just sly rather than combative about it as he was when he was young.

RonRon Talleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11764770098709018010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811301296967331254.post-77937324416036121422009-12-25T00:02:33.436-08:002009-12-25T00:02:33.436-08:00Good post, but I think it butts against Dylan'...Good post, but I think it butts against Dylan's terror of being cornered and labeled. He just released a Christmas album, after all.

But the Goldwater/Tom Mix detail is great: Jewish-Episcopalian-cowboy blurs the borders of identity in a way that fits right with Bob's protean MO.Christopher Bjorkehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12684886457618349241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811301296967331254.post-78877765093972987662009-12-24T20:50:42.557-08:002009-12-24T20:50:42.557-08:00It seems to me that, as Dylan would have it himsel...It seems to me that, as Dylan would have it himself, Dylan's lyrics are interpreted to death, literally, killing their free spirit. There is and has been for a long time outre speculation about the meaning of Dylan's songs. My guess is that they are spontaneously written and straight from the unconscious. That's why many of them are so raggedy. He is constantly revising as can be seen by listening to the bootleg recordings.

In other words, I think the interpretation is overinerpretation, way over done and way out there for the most part.

RonRon Talleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11764770098709018010noreply@blogger.com
